The Earl the Fairy Vol 1 Ayuko 9781421541686 Books

Having had a chance to read Volume 1 I must say this is one manga you don't want to miss. It has a certain touch of excitement, danger, confusion and just something about it is so different from most of the shouja mangas you read now a days. It has it's soft cute moments it but it feels so much like reading a classic story it reminds me so much of an English novel or an intriguing fantasy book.

The story itself is set in Victorian England and it maintains accuracy with the timeline. It also deals a lot with British Folklore on Fairies and adds it's own twist on certain things. The characters are different enjoyable and easy to like or hate (depending on one being a villain or not.)

Edgar has quite the air of a dangerous character but a certain gentlemen side to him that you can't help but warm up to, also his intentions leave him as a bit of enigma in his own right. Like Lydia you keep wondering throughout the whole book if Edgar is a good or a bad guy. Lydia isn't your average damsel in distress type gal rather she is fairly smart and clever. Their relationship starts out as sort of complex its something that will keep you guessing. I found some things between the quite laughable. The other characters complex also especially Edgar's servants Raven and Ermine.

It's quite an intriguing story from the first page I couldn't put it down. The plot is enjoyable and the art is really quite beautiful. There is rarely a dull moment in the whole volume and it's just the tip of the iceberg you can tell

To sum it up without spoiling the readers this manga is a rare gem it's really worth the read for any age who enjoys fantasy and a good story that keeps you guessing throughout the whole book. It's so different from any manga I have seen in quite a while it stands out of its uniqueness and engaging plot.

I eagerly await the next volume it's got me hooked.

The Earl the Fairy Vol 1 Ayuko 9781421541686 Books Reviews

Wonderful story!
I really enjoy the concept of "fairies" and "fairy doctors". It's interesting and was presented in a light that didn't toss it into the stale supernatural-esque category.
I don't really, however, like Edgar. I understand that in this story, as with many, and many more, and still many more, it "fits" to give him the cruel/kind reverse personality. I guess I'm just not buying it anymore... this might not bother you at all, but I'm growing to dislike this kind of male character, alongside the continuously flustered female characters who still tend to stick around a wishy-washy guy like that (though Lydia isn't such an offender in that sense). It just seems to lack the light of reason behind darkened eyes, so to say.

Despite all of that, a good read.
The artwork in this manga is beautiful. I do like the premis of the story as well... It would be nice if it had a little bit more depth, but I am not complaining. I enjoyed reading this book and the others that followed.
I purchased this book after reading a chapter from my friend's copy. I was hooked by this wonderfully written fantasy Lolita novel. The art style is superb. The book came well packaged and had no visible damage. I have had it for over a year now, and have re-read it many times.
This is a very lovely book with very interesting twists. I watched the show first and was shocked by somethings!!! I still can't figure out why I didn't see that coming!!! But more the book, there is always second guessing going on for Lydia!! I LOVE the art it is BEAUTIFUL!!!! I also love that it can be super intense to super funny or romantic!!!! I think that the setting was fun being the fact it is based in Victorian England!!! I think most people would truly love and cherish it for a very long time it very much has a timeless feeling to it!!!!!! It is pure perfection!!!! I also want to thank the author of even writing such a beautiful story!!! I can't wait to read the next volume!!!!
Like the reviewer before me, this manga is a rare gem. I have completely enjoyed reading this series. It caught my eye because of the great reviews and also because it's short. I was looking for a series that wasn't going to cost me a lot of money. I'm really glad I purchased these four books. This manga is easily one of the greatest Shojo mangas I've read. The characters are very well put together and their stories are wonderful. The artwork is delicate and kawaii. Very "shojo" like. This series is adventurous, intimate, and simply magical. I was enchanted. I still am. Read it. You won't be able to put it down.
I love this story line, it's different, informative of different legends, fork lore, and Myths. Our heroine is a Fairy Doctor, who is having a bit of trouble finding work since people don't believe in fairies anymore, and almost but none can see them besides our main character. She's tricked into taking a trip to see her father and kidnapped, then rescued, only to find out that she is also somewhat kidnapped again, by a man who says he's a blue knight of the fairy realm. This character has many secrets, and it's hard to see what is true when he lies all the time, but Lydia will join him if only to prevent someone fake from stealing what isn't his. It's flirtatious, intriguing, and there's no shortage of fairies, evil, good, even mermaids! I am awaiting vol 5 and contemplating buying the dvd's. A great buy.
